Prompt Engineering (PeBiWi)

Consequences of AI for the skills required in education and the economy

The project

Artificial intelligence is undoubtedly transforming the world of work as we know it. This is creating considerable uncertainty in politics, education, and the economy. What new skills will be required? How should the education system respond? These questions are being explored by 'PeBiWi'. Using prompt engineering as an example, i.e. human language input, the course is developing and piloting AI skills for education and business in a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). Analysis of the results will provide new guidance and a free online course for education, business, and politics.

The course starts on 29 September 2025 and pre-registration is already possible: imoox.at/course/genKI.

AI Competencies as MOOC

This project empirically investigates the fundamental concepts of the impact of AI technology in the field of prompt engineering. This includes the ethical and technical knowledge and AI skills required for the intelligent use of language-based AI. It focuses on identifying the necessary skills for the safe, ethical and autonomous use of language-based AI in education and business. The results will be incorporated into a pilot Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), which will be made available free of charge on the iMoox.at platform.

Zukunftsfonds Styria

The project is being carried out by the University of Graz's Teaching/Learning and Digital Transformation Department (Institute for Educational Research and Teacher Training), led by Prof. Kathrin Otrel-Cass, in collaboration with Graz University of Technology's Teaching and Learning Technologies organisational unit, led by Martin Ebner. This one-year research project is funded by the Province of Styria's Zukunftsfonds and will run until autumn 2025.
